Google is great for searching but with keyword targeted ads and an unfiltered search system, you may receive results that are unsuitable for kids. Try some of these search tools for your research needs!

 

General Kid-Friendly Search Tools

 

Sweet Search

  • Sweet Search 4 Me provides students with search results that are kid friendly and have been evaluated by a team of teacher-researchers. There are several search engines in the Sweet Search family including Sweet Search Biographies.

 

Boolify

  • This image friendly site teaches students of all ages how to conduct a proper Boolean search.

 

Kid Rex

  • This search site allows students to search through Google in a kid-friendly/filtered manner. Students still need use proper research skills but this removes most inappropriate content.

 

Kids Click

  • Kids Click offers kid friendly information broken into a variety of topics.

 

Duck Duck Go

  • While Duck Duck Go is not a kid specific search engine it does have less clutter (read: ads) on the pages than google and allows for private searching (it does not save IP information from the computer.)

  • This search aggregator offers a number of kid-friendly sites for obtaining images for use in presentation.
